Macau International Cricket Sixes 2009

Postponement of the Macau International Cricket Sixes 2009

7th May 2009: Due to difficulties concerning the securing of the venue, we regret that despite many months of preparations and best efforts, we have to announce our decision to postpone the Macau Sixes 2009.

We were very much looking forward to returning the Sixes to Macau after the very popular first tournament in 2007 won by Shanghai, and we know many teams were keen to enter.

However, for reasons beyond our control, it has proved impossible to stage the tournament in June as hoped, and we would prefer to give everyone early notice of the situation. We apologise for any disappointment.

We are hopeful that at some point in the future we will be able to stage another Macau Cricket Sixes, to add to our tournaments in Phuket, Hong Kong, Philippines, New South Wales and Bangkok.

In the meantime we are also exploring possible new tournaments in Pattaya, Vietnam, India and Nepal to be held in 2010.

For further information contact Mike ’Cat‘ Maher at cat@cricketsixes.com.

The Macau International Cricket Sixes is the first cricket tournament ever to be staged in the vibrant territory of Macau, and promises to capture the imagination of cricketers regionally and internationally.

Staged at University stadium, Taipa on 7 & 8th July 2007, it promises to quickly become an established major annual event on the international club cricket calendar and potentially one of the largest events of its kind in the world.

The tournament will feature three competition categories: Cup, Plate and Bowl Divisions. Up to 14 teams are expected to compete at the 2007 Macau Sixes, rising to 18 teams in 2008 and 20+ teams in subsequent years.

The event will be the premier corporate and social cricket tournament in Macau attracting international, regional and local teams, and A-list star players.

A celebrity charity match may be staged under floodlights, presenting an incredible spectacle to benefit an appropriate community project.

The tournament is organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) and is featured on the official ACST Tournament calendar.

Tiger Airways

Singapore-based airline Tiger Airways have kindly donated a pair of return tickets from Macau to Singapore for the Charity Auction

Cricket Sixes is a short form of the sport of cricket where six players make up each team rather than the traditional eleven. In some ways the idea is similar to Rugby Sevens in that each Cricket Sixes match is designed to incorporate all the most exciting aspects of the sport: high scores, fast action and exciting match finishes.

Now recognised worldwide, the Sixes format is a definite “crowd-pleaser” with each match lasting about 45 minutes.
